Blog 1- What's the 'craic'?

Have you ever wondered, ‘What’s the craic in Belfast?’, if so, this blog is for you!

C-R-A-I-C; Irish slang describing the essence of having a good time, experiencing fun, or simply having a laugh. In the heart of Northern Ireland, lies Belfast, a small city compared to its neighbors in the UK however it is booming in culture, history, and of course, the craic. As a local East Belfast girl, I have watched our ‘wee’ city transform into a cultural hotspot heaving with tourists. This blog is an ode to Belfast, inspired by my time working at the Visit Belfast Welcome Centre. An experience that ignited my passion for tourism in Belfast and in general. I have put the attractions in Belfast into three subcategories: culture, history, and craic. Let's first look at what I consider the cultural activities and sights to see in Belfast.

  • St George’s Market: A step back in time

Upon entering the grand arch, you will be transported back to the late 1800’s. Walking around the market will be the cheapest trip around the world you will ever get your hands on.

Your taste buds will be tinglin
g from the temptation of local food such as The Belfast Bap Co. - a soft roll jam-packed with sausage, bacon, black pudding, egg, and hash brown or from a different cuisine such as the Tapitas paella and tapas stall

Go here for the best paella in Belfast, one mouthful will make you feel like you are in Valencia drinking sangria soaking up the Spanish sun – a break we all deserve from the Irish weather.

Suppose you’re like me and have a deadly sweet tooth. In that case, you will not be disappointed with the wide variety of baked goods and sweet stalls such as rainbow meringues, mouthwatering fudge, and modernised versions of traditional traybakes like Jam and Olly’s kinder Bueno rocky road.
